First of all I hate to leave bad reviews as I admire people for taking a chance & putting themselves out there. I do, however, want to warn others, who like me, may buy it simply because it sounds interesting & the high ratings it got. Not sure what age range those reviewers are but I found the characters in this book EXTREMELY immature and there was way too much 'high school drama'. Yes, I realize the characters were not in high school and that they were old enough to be college graduates by several years, but you certainly couldn't tell by their actions and dialog. There is way too much giggling in the story and we heard way too many times that Izzy has a 'bright smile'. For the Z to see her walk into a room and notice her 'cute' top - guys aren't going to look at a shirt & think 'that's a cute top'. And speaking of Z, he & his ex got old fast. First his name for her was a bit excessive. Yes, she cheated and yes he had a right to be upset but I felt he had way too much hatred going on there when it didn't sound like they had much of a relationship anyway & he'd moved on & found Izzy. Also, why did his ex still keep relentlessly calling and texting him and stop by the bar and apartment? More importantly, if Z was so crazy about Izzy & so anti cheating what was up with that scene in his office? Also, the closure or whatever you want to call that meeting between Izzy & 'he/him' at the end, that was really strange and very unrealistic. Her ex being referred to as he or him throughout the book rather than a name was weird. I thought his name was going to be Mark since she had an aversion to that name.Luckily I only paid .99 cents for it but even at that I regret that I wasted my hard-earned money. This book was a slow, painful read for me but I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because I did actually finish it even though I asked myself numerous times why I was still reading it. But the author had me at least curious to see what the big event was that caused Izzy to leave her ex. I was curious to see if my guess was correct. So I felt it warranted an extra star since I finished it and because it was a stand alone novel.

Promises Promises Alluring Promises Series Book 1 edition by Josie Bordeaux Book Designs By Dee Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Izzy and Z are adorable. She has a terrible past, which included recently running away from "him", her rich and powerful ex. She goes to stay with her best friend which is how she meets Zander. Zander at the time had a girlfriend but still felt an intense connection to Izzy from their first meeting at his bar.
I love Izzy's roommates, Mel, Clark and Flynn. I love that Flynn and Z grew up together and have been best friends forever as their parents are great friends.
This book does a great job of getting you to feel everything for the characters and to root for them non-stop. I love that they try to go slow but there is just something that draws them to each other and they can't stay away, SO...MUCH....PASSION.
I think this might have been the author's first book? I would believe that. I was not bad, but it suffer from some new author syndrome. For example, there were characters and situations that were never fully wrapped up (Brad and their feelings for each other, the men who watched over her when she was young, some other things). A really experienced author doesn't seem to introduce extraneous things but rather at some point in the book uses them to illustrate or wrap it all back up. These were just left hanging in this one, leaving a kind of "huh?" feeling.
Our hero, Z, owns a bar. Izzy is just out from an abusive relationship. The really interesting premise given the plethora of BDSM books out and popular right now is that Izzy is running from that type of relationship. It could have been a really fascinating opposing viewpoint type of novel, but it honestly felt as if that wasn't explored like it could have been. Izzy did have some issues from the relationship, of course, but they felt surface rather than having the impact they could have in the novel. That said, points given for something different presented!
This was very very much a new adult novel, complete lots of drinking, drunkenness, college stories, puking and hangovers seemingly every chapter or so. That isn't unique to this author, but it seemed a bit much at times.
Side characters were stereotypical of NA romances, but again not badly written. I would definitely come back to this new author again and read more. Most of what I didn't enjoy as much seems to be common in NA and new authors. It was a great effort, and I did enjoy the story.
Izzy just left her Dom after a 2-year BDSM relationship. In that relationship she basically never thought for herself but she finally felt it had gone wrong and she needed out. She reconnected with her old friend and got a job at a bar. She really liked the bar's owner Zander(aka Z). He had just broken up with a long term girlfriend whom he caught cheating. Neither Izzy or Z wanted to be the other's rebound but they did feel something for each other. Z was an alpha male and maybe that's what Izzy needed but she also was growing stronger on her own. Z helped her too. Their relationship was mutually beneficial and loving. The author created great characters that you will really get into. It was hard to put the book down. I've already purchased the other books in this series. I really enjoy this author's work.
